CPM rejects UNPA proposal to support Kalam

New Delhi, June 21: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today turned down the United National Progressive Alliance(UNPA) proposal of a second term for Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

UNPA leaders today held a meeting with CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat to seek the party's support for Dr Kalam's candidature.

However, Mr Karat told them that his party had already decided to support UPA nominee Ms Pratibha Patil, a statement issued by the CPI(M) said.

The UNPA leaders are also meeting CPI on the issue today.
