Corporator demands criminal action
Kolhapur, June 21 (UNI) Senior corporator Sunil Modi today urged the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner to register a criminal case against Vikesh Abhaykumar Oswal, a power of attorney person of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, for allegedly deceiving the Corporation by sumbitting duplicate papers.
Addressing a news conference here, Mr Modi said Ms Mangeshkar had appointed Mr Oswal for a period of three months from July 2, 2006, for the development of the land of Jayprabha Studio, which she owns, for commercial purposes.
As per the power of attorney agreement, the period of three months had ended on September 30, 2006, hence the agreement automatically stood revoked from and with effect from October 1, 2006. However, Mr Oswal illigally used that power of attorney to do correspondence with KMC.
Mr Modi submitted a memorandum to KMC Commissioner in this connection and urged the authority to take criminal action under section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Mr Oswal and also to revoke tentative lay-out plan of Jayprabha Studio land development, which was approved by the civic body earlier.
It has been over last six months that the issue of Jayprabha Studio land development is mired in controversy. Ms Mangeshkar, who owns the studio, had sold around seven acres of the total 11 acres of land for commercial development. The move was opposed by the citizens.
