Akal Takht can only decide on Sacha Sauda apology:SGPC

Fatehgarh Sahib, June 21 (UNI) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar today said only Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti had the 'authority' to take a decision on the fresh apology offered by Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh.

''The SGPC wanted that the Sacha Sauda matter should be resolved and peace be restored,'' he said while talking to mediapersons here.

He said though he had not seen the draft of the apology sent by the Dera chief as the letter had not yet been opened, but it could soothe the hurt religious sentiments of Sikhs. He said that a decision of the Akal Takht on the letter was likely to come within the next few days.

Jathedar Makkar said the SGPC had been trying that the Dera head apologises and by issuing a fresh letter he had done the right thing.

The fresh apology letter in a sealed envelope was handed over to Jathedar Makkar by a Congress MLA at Mohali yesterday.
