Lucknow, June 21 (UNI) In a major swoop, the elite Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested two Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HuJI) terrorists and recovered a large quantity of explosives from their possession.

With the arrest, the UP Police claimed to have neutralised major terrorist acts planned across the country in the coming days.

''The duo were planning major subversive and terrorist acts in Lucknow and other important Indian cities,'' UP Director General of Police (DGP) G L Sharma said addressing a packed news conference here this evening.

The Pakistan-trained terrorists had been identified as Mohd Yaqoob alais Lambu and Nasir, both residents of Badapur in Bijnore district of western UP.

A total of 7 kg RDX, 6 detonators, 5 timers, mobile phones, SIM card and other objectionable items were recovered from them, the DGP added.

Acting on a tip-off that two Pak-trained terrorists were arriving in Lucknow, the STF nabbed Yaqoob near the Charbagh railway station under Naka area this afternoon.

Later, Nasir was arrested from the nearby Hussainganj area of the state capital, the DGP informed.
