Software engineer nabbed for causing bomb scare
Kapurthala, June 20 (UNI) A software engineer was arrested here today for making a hoax call saying he had planted a bomb in Ferozepur-Jalandhar passenger train.
The bomb scare delayed the train for two hours here as the train was thoroughly searched by police, Railway protection Force (RPF) and bomb squad at every stoppage.
Police arrested the caller Lalit Burmal, resident of local Bank colony near Devi Talab, minutes before the arrival of train at Kapurthala railway station after tracing the anonymous call with the help of BSNL.
Talking to mediapersons, SSP Rakesh Aggarwal said, Burmal had telephoned the control room at 0200 hrs claiming that there would be an explosion in the 4JF Ferozeopur-Jalandhar train as he had planted a bomb in it.
Later, he claimed that he had telephoned the control room out of frustration as he had a quarrel with his father over marrying his US-based girlfriend.
Police has registered a case against the accused.
The SSP said, following the call, police immediately swung into action and informed the Ferozepur Railway Station about the bomb.
Police and the RPF personnel searched the train with the help of dog squad, delaying the departure by about 10 minutes.
The train was searched at every stoppage, resulting in delay of the train, which was scheduled to arrive at Kapurthala at 0747 hours but reached at 0945 hours this morning.
