Report on SC, ST welfare programmes soon

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) A report on the implementation of welfare programmes for the SCs and STs would be submitted to the Andhra Pradesh Government soon, Congress MLA T Sambaiah, a representative of the SC, said today.

Addressing a news conference here, he said he, along with another MLA K Ravi Babu, representing STs, and officials of the Social Welfare Department had recently visited Maharashtra to study the implementation of welfare programmes there for the SCs and STs.

He said the Maharashtra Government had been utilising funds for SCs under 'Special Component Plan' and STs under 'Tribal Sub-plan' through a Nodal Agency. A nodal agency had been monitoring the implementation and expenditure of the funds every month.

He urged the government to implement the welfare programmes on the lines of the Maharashtra Government and appoint a Nodal agency to oversee implementation.
