Prez polls: Jaya cancels visit to meet Kalam
Chennai, June 20: AIADMK supremo and one of the key leaders of thenewly-formed United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) J Jayalalithaatoday cancelled her visit to the National Capital.
Ms Jayalalithaa and other leaders of the UNPA constitutents werescheduled to meet President A P J Abdul Kalam today to request him tocontest the presidential election for a second term, as per thedecision taken at the UNPA's meeting held here on June 18.
Official sources said five air tickets have been booked for MsJayalalithaa, her personal aide Ms Sasikala, servant girl, personalsecurity officer and personal assistant to her in the Indian flightscheduled to leave here for Delhi at 1010 hrs.
Since Ms Jayalalithaa was under 'Z' category, tight security arrangements were made around the airport from early this morning.
However, security measures were withdrawn around 0900 hrs after amessage received from the security control room that Ms Jayalalithaahad cancelled her visit to New Delhi, the sources added.
Ms Jayalithaa and others had planned to return from the Capitaltonight by Jet Airways flight leaving New Delhi at 1900 hrs, thesources said.
