Poland hasn't softened position on EU treaty-Germany
BERLIN, June 20 (Reuters) Poland has not softened its position on plans drawn up under the German presidency of the European Union for a new voting system for members of the bloc, a senior German government official said today.
''I could not see any willingness to cooperate in recent weeks,'' the official, who requested anonymity, told reporters at a briefing in Berlin.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who holds the rotating presidency of the 27-nation EU, wants to agree the outlines of a new treaty at a summit in Brussels that begins on Thursday.
Poland, which opposes the plans for a new EU voting system, and Britain, which is seeking to water down proposals for a common European foreign and security policy, are seen as the chief obstacles to her drive.
