Parmar withdraws anticipatory bail application

Ahmedabad, June 20 (UNI) A police officer, embroiled in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, withdrew his anticipatory bail application from the Gujrat High Court after the court indicated that the application stands to be rejected.

The High Court today permitted the counsel for DySP ML Parmar to withdraw the anticipatory bail application which he had filed on Monday, after Justice Aqueel Qureshi heard the submissions made by the Gujarat Government and Parmar's counsel.

Last week, the sessions court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea following which Parmar had moved the High Court.

A metropolitan magistrate here had issued an arrest warrant against Parmar 15 days ago.

Parmar had allegedly escorted Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauserbi from a bus and arranged for their stay at a farm house on the outskirts of the city immediately before the husband wife duo was killed in a fake encounter.

Early this week, three police officers of Rajasthan Police had also withdrawn their anticipatory bail applications.

In all, six police officers, including three of the IPS cadre, have been arrested and lodged in the Sabarmati Jail so far. They are D G Vanzara, who headed the Anti-Terrorist Squad at that time, his assistant Rajkumar Pandian who is SP and an officer of Rajasthan police, and M N Dinesh.
