Pakistan sends letter to journalists association

Kathmandu, June 20 (UNI) Pakistan has said the letter sent to President Pervez Musharraf by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ),was incorrect, misleading and baseless, media reports said.

In a letter written to FNJ, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting defended the Pakistan Government's latest move to curb press freedom, Kantipur quoted the letter sent to FNJ as saying.

The letter claimed that President Musharraf had introduced far reaching and comprehensive set of reforms to ensure freedom of information and press in the country.

''The press in Pakistan can proudly serve as a model of freedom and maturity for countries of the world, particularly your own, because of its exceptional record,'' said the statement.

The FNJ on June 15 had written to the President, expressing concern over increasing dangers and growing restrictions on the functioning of independent media in Pakistan.
