Nine persons arrested for gambling

Surat, June 20 (UNI) Nine persons including the owner of a flat were arrested today from Palanpur Patia area for gambling, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided plot no 191 of Dindayal society at Palanpur Patia and arrested the owner of the appartment Hirji Madhavji Varu along with eight building contractors for gambling.

The accused have been identified as Bhalchandra Bhagvan Choudhary, Tukaram Bachu Kacha, Ramji Ratansingh Vaghela, Dahya Jivraj Vaghela, Shankar Jina Patel, Ratilal Bechar Javiya, Gordhan Govind Kacha, Parshottam Chagan Vaghela, Arun Gochar Tank and Nilesh Hirji Varu, son of Hirji Madhavji Varu, the proprietor of the gambling den.

Police have registered a case according to the Gambling Act against the accused, police added.
