Navy Chief on UK Visit

New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta is currently on a visit to the United Kingdom seeking to enhance cooperation between the two Navies and expand the scope of combined exercises.

While in the UK, till June 23, Admiral Mehta is scheduled to meet First Sea Lord (Chief of the Naval Staff) of the Royal Navy Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup and Permanent Under Secretary of Defence Derek Twigg.

He will also be visiting a naval shipyard, Permanent Joint Headquarters and Royal Naval Training Establishments.

Discussions on the security situation in the Indian Ocean Region, West and South East Asia and about the experiences of the UK Armed Forces in the recent past are also on the agenda, according to an official spokesperson.

The modalities for sharing of information in the maritime domain are likely to figure prominently, he said.
