Madhya Pradesh: Kotwar panchayat on June 22

Bhopal, June 20: In an attempt to solve the problems of differentsections of people by organising their state-level conventions, the BJPgovernment in Madhya Pradesh will be organising Kotwar panchayat hereon June 22.

This will be the fifth such event being organised here in the lastfew months after the panchayats for women, farmers, tribals, Dalits andforest dwellers.

Kotwars formed the lowest rung of the government machinery invillages as they were supposed to function as watchman and inform thepolice and other revenue officials about every development, crime,birth and death. Besides providing few acres of land to earn theirlivelihood, they were also paid nominal honorarium.

''Kotwars from all 48 districts will assemble at the ChiefMinister's official residence to air their grievances. Discussions willbe held on various service related problems and work nature'', officialsources said.
