Laskhar threatens to blow up religious places

Lucknow, June 20: A letter purportedly written by banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba agent Kareem Ansari, threatening to blow up prominent religious places and railway stations in the country on June 30, has led the authorities to step up security in those places.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Government Railway Police (GRP) sources here, the letter addressing Bulandshahr station superintendent Jai Bhagwan Tyagi yesterday said all the religious places and railway stations in the country are the main target of Lashkar-e-Toiba.

It threatened to blow up the Lucknow, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Meerut and Moradabad and other railway stations in the country.

The letter further stated that if Lakshkar-e-Toiba failed to get Afzal Gura -- main accused in December 13, 2001 attack on parliament -- released it would blow up the India Gate in New Delhi.

The terrorist outfit also mentioned that after the recent Mecca Mosque blast in Hyderabad, Vaishno Devi, Katra and Golden Temple, Amritsar are its main target.

The letter adds, ''we can go to any extent to release Afzal Guru.

If we fail, Zehad will continue.'' Though the content of the letter in being investigated, security has been strengthened at Bulandshahr, Moradabad, Ghaziabad, Agra, Aligarh and Bareilly railway stations.

With terror threat looming large on religious places, police have been been deployed on round the clock vigil.

Recently, the administration of the famous Siddhi Vinayak and Shirdi temples in Maharashtra had also received a threatening letter by a terrorist outfit, following which offering of 'nariyal' (coconut) had been banned there.

On June 1 last, a letter purportedly written by an ISI agent threatening to blow up Panki Power house in Kanpur had been received, which said that all the industrial establishments and airports are the main targets of the ISI.
