Jabalpur, June 20 (UNI) A local youth abducted from here 23 days ago was recovered from Uttar Pradesh's Mugalsarai where he was left by panicked kidnappers on seeing a police team checking vehicles, police said here today.

City Superintendent of Police Siddharth Choudhary told UNI that Prateek Jain, resident of the city's Lordganj police station area, was stopped by few car-borne youths while he was on his way on his scooter to his friend's birthday party in Vijaynagar area here on May 26. After rebuking him for his driving style, the unidentified youth forced him to inhale some substance after which he was put in a vehicle in a semi-conscious condition.

Mr Choudhary said Prateek was confined in a small room, where a 35-year-old man brought food and also drugged him regularly. The kidnappers, however, did not contact the victim's family for ransom, on the apprehension that the police was after them.

While transporting him to another place in a vehicle on June 17, the kidnappers found a police team on vehicle checking drive in Mugalsarai and fled after dropping Prateek on the roadside, where a constable found him in semi-conscious condition. Later his relatives and Jabalpur police reached there.
