India offers assistance of 10 million dollars for landslide victims

Dhaka, Jun 20 (UNI) Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh offered an assistance of 10 million dollars for relief and rehabilitation of landslide victims in Bangladesh's southeastern city of Chittagong.

Some 123 people were killed and several hundreds injured following the rain triggered landslide on June 11.

In a letter to Bangladesh caretaker government's Chief Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, Mr Singh expressed deep grief at the tragic loss of life and destruction of property as a result of the devastating mudslides in Chittagong.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury told the reporters that the Prime Minister had also offered an immediate assistance of US 10 million dollars for relief and rehabilitation of the distressed.

Chief Adviser Ahmed has replied expressing his profound appreciation and gratitude for the gesture and stated that in these sentiments he was joined by the people and government of Bangladesh.
