'Illegal arms trafficking from ammunition factory cause for concern'
Pune, Jun 20 (UNI) Making a startling disclosure, Pune Police Commissioner Jayant Umranikar expressed surprise that there had been a suspected illegal trafficking of ammunition from the Government Ammunition Factory at Khadki which was certainly a cause for concern before the police.
Addressing a crowded media conference Mr Umranikar said efforts were on to find out how the ammunition from the government factory were reaching the hands of criminals.
''Though the police are ivestigating the loopholes, it has not come to any conclusion to ascertain the facts leading to ammunition being seized since the last five months from the criminals,'' he said.
In the last five months, 33 pistols and revolvers had been seized from criminals. Some of the ammunition recovered from them were found to be identical to that produced in the ammunition factory at Khadki.
The police is seeking help from the Union government as well as the top brass of the Ammunition Factory itself, he said.
