Docs shocked as boy performs surgery

Tiruchirapalli, June 20 (UNI) A 'Caesarean Operation' on a woman by a teenager at a private nursing home in Manapparai, about 40 kms from here, has shocked the entire medical fraternity.

The violation of medical ethics by a 15-year-old boy, son of a doctor couple came to light after the incident was taken seriously by the Tamil Nadu Chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Dr Murugesan, a surgeon, gave a video presentation to the members of IMA, in which his son M Dhileepan Raj, a X standard student, was performing a surgery with his parents assistance at their private nursing home, IMA sources told UNI today. The doctor tried to justify the action of his son as the IMA members protested, sources added.

The irate members then brought the incident to the notice of Dr N Mohan Doss, President of IMA Tamil Nadu Chapter, who in turn sought explanation from Dr Murugesan.

In his reply, Dr Murugesan said when a robotic or laparascopic equipment could perform a surgery, why his son could not perform the same with his parents assistance, who were doctors. He, however, tendered an apology.

When contacted by this correspondent, Dr Doss said the Tamil Nadu chapter was discussing the explanation adding that this issue would be the prime agenda at the newly-elected State Medical Council meeting at Chennai tomorrow. The issue of cancelling Dr Murugesan's IMA membership would be taken up during the association's next meeting in August this year.
