Betting kingpin arrested

Lucknow, June 20 (UNI) Police today arrested an alleged betting kingpin in Premnagar area of Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh.

The accused was identified as Nageena alias Azad Ahmad, Jhansi SSP K S Pippal said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad's aides were being identified and the amount of wealth accumulated by him through betting and illegal means was being ascertained.

Mr Pippal said the locals tried to prevent the arrest of Ahmad, since he had cultivated an image of a person, who helped the needy and the poor. However, the mob was pacified by the police.

Ahmad was later sent to jail.
