AG HP face AG UP in TT final

Chandigarh, June 20 (UNI) Holders Accountant General Himachal Pradesh AG HP ousted hosts AG Punjab by 3-2 in a well-fought semifinal in the men's team section of the North Zone Indian Audit and Accounts Department Table Tennis Tournament here today.

AG Uttar Pradesh blanked AG Haryana by 3-0 in the second semi-final and set up title clash with AG HP.

In the first singles, Yashwant Gangta of AG HP outclassed Love Kumar of AG Punjab in straight games by 11-6, 11-2, 11-4.

In the second singles, star player of AG Punjab, Vikas Sharma restored parity by beating Somnath of AG HP by 11-8, 13-11, 8-11, 11-5.

In the third singles, Anamik Sood of AG HP toiled to overcome Sonik Monga of AG Punjab by 11-4, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8 and provide his team the vital lead by 2-1.

In the first reverse singles, Vikas Sharma of AG Punjab, equalized the lead when he outshined Yashwant Gangta of AG HP by 11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 11-7.

In the second reverse singles, Somnath of AG HP thrashed Love Kumar of AG Punjab in straight sets by 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 and ensured their team's berth in the final.

Runners-up AG UP proved too good for AG Haryana whom they routed them by 3-0. Virendra of AG UP, opened the account for his team by beating Harish Kumar of AG Haryana by 11-13, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11 in the first singles.

In the second singles, Pitanjali Kumar of AG Haryana fought bravely against S P Singh of AG UP before losing by 10-12, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 3-11. In the third singles, Anand of AG UP beat Amod Dixit of AG Haryana by 11-6, 12-10, 11-7.

AG Uttranachal, AG J&K and Delhi Audit teams did not turn up for the event.

Men's singles and women's singles matches will be played tomorrow.
