Three arrested for attacking KMC officials
Kolhapur, Jun 19 (UNI) Three persons were arrested from Laxmipuri area here today for allegedly trying to attack officials of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) octroi department when they tried to inspect a liquor shop, where liquor had been procured without paying octroi.
The trio -- liquor shop owner, Balkrushna alias Santosh Shankar Kamat (35), his brother Shripat (38) and his brother-in-law Ramnath Kene (30) -- were arrested.
The liquor shop owner threatened to kill a KMC octroi department employee with his revolver and fired at the official. However, the gun misfired.
They were arrested under section 307,353,337 of the IPC and the revolver and two live cartriges seized and one fired empty cartridge.
Later KMC Deputy Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh told reporters that the process of calculating liquor stocks would continue including those that were brought without paying octroi.
