Sri Lankan International Airport to soon resume night operations
Colombo, June 19 (UNI) The Sri Lankan government has decided to resume night operations at the Bandaranaike International Airport, which were suspended in early May following LTTEair raids.
''The decision, taken yesterday to soon resume night operations at the Bandaranaike International Airport, was taken at a top-level meeting attended by senior ministers, defence officials and military top brass here in Colombo,'' Presidential Spokesman Chandrapala Liyanage told UNI over the phone.
''The night operation at the airport will resume within a few days,'' he added.
Sri Lanka suspended night operations and confined the operational hours of the country's only international airport between 0400 to 2200 hrs in early May as a safety precaution after the LTTE carried out of midnight air raids in and around the capital city.
The government had said the decision to suspend night operations was based on requests made by airline operators as a precautionary measure aiming '' to minimise inconvenience caused to both the airline operators and passengers''.
