TN: 'Qualified persons as elect maintenance staff'

Chennai, Jun 19: The Tamil Nadu Electrical Contractors and Electricity Connectors Central Association has appealed the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to ensure that qualified persons were appointed as electrical maintenance staff.

In a statement here today, Association president R Mathurai and Propaganda secretary R Srinivasan said the TNEB should make certain that only qualified persons were recruited as electrical maintenance staff in educational institutions, marriage halls, commercial complexes, flats, cinema houses, hotels and student hostels.

They also appealed the TNEB to strictly ensure usage of ISI marked electrical goods by the consumers to avoid mishaps like leakage of electricity, short circuits and prevent daily wage employees of the TNEB to carry out sensitive electrical works.

They wanted that one of the members of the association be nominated as member in the State Electrcity Regulatory Authority and Building Workers Welfare Board.

The state government should also set up a separate welfare board for them and arrange bank loans for sound and light organisers, they added.
