New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Aimed at providing a rehabilitation-avenue for Army personnel disabled while in service, a Courier Collection Centre was today inaugurated by President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Anupama Singh.

The Army has a large number of soldiers who suffer injuries and disabilities due to a variety of reasons while in service, including injuries sustained in anti-militancy operations.

The venture -- with the avowed objective of empowering persons with such disabilities -- will aim at their economic rehabilitation as well as that of the kin of Army personnel so challenged, said an official spokesperson here.

The Courier Collection Centre has been launched in collaboration with the DTDC Couriers&Cargo Ltd -- its Managing Director Subhashish Chackraborty was also present on the occasion.

DTDC Couriers&Cargo Ltd -- with a large national and international network -- and AWWA -- which enjoys the support of the Indian Army -- have a distinct edge over others in providing the much needed logistics and man-management support to such ventures which seek to establish a link between rehabilitation professionals and those in need, the spokesperson observed.
