Convict escapes a la Bollywood

Dibrugarh (Asom), Jun 19 (UNI) It was a rerun of a scene straight out of a Bollywood potboiler.

A jailed dacoit today made good his escape after he was produced before the court at Dibrugarh this afternoon, and later jumped into the Brahmaputra river.

Siva Mura of Namrup was convicted four months back.

He was brought to the Dibrugarh Sessions Court. Soon after the hearing was over, police escorted him to the vehicle which was parked outside the court.

When they reached the court's entrance, Siva managed to break off the security and started to run.

Police and the public chased him as he ran towards the Brahmaputra river.

The convict then jumped into the river before the police could catch up.

While the police have ruled out any chances of Siva surviving the rising waters of the mighty river, his body was yet to be fished out.
