CM urged to look into VAT input appendix

Puducherry, June 19 (UNI) Pointing out that the items which were recognised as inputs by the government have not found their place in the input appendix of the VAT ordinance here, Association of Small Industries of the Union Territory of Pondicherry (ASIUTOP) today urged Chief Minister to interfere in the matter.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, ASIUTOP Secretary K Parthasarathy said all inputs and packing materials used in the manufacture of products were to be fixed with a uniform concessional rate of four per cent. All the states have strictly adopted this norms and included the description in the schedule under four per cent tariff, he said.

While almost all the states have given the list with common names of the items having a broader description, Puducherry had chosen to adopt the pattern of West Bengal by naming the individual items as per the cental excise act, resulting in several regular raw materials, inputs and packing materials not being listed in the appendix, he said.

Mr Parthasarathy said if the inputs were not permitted at the concessional tarrif of four per cent under VAT, it would create total chaos in the industries in the territory.

ASIUTOP also submitted a list of 39 input/packing materials to the Chief Minister to include in the appendix in the third schedule of VAT ordinance, he said.
