BSF on anti-cattle smuggling drive
Guwahati, Jun 19 (UNI) Border Security Force deployed on Mankachar belt of the International Border with Bangladesh in Dhubri District of Asom seized 50 cattle meant for smuggling into Bangladesh.
Official sources here today said that Border Out Posts(BOP) troops in Kushnimara, siezed these cattle on June 17, after they were tipped-off on the presence of a huge number of cattle being smuggled into the neighbouring country.
Cattle from as far as Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were transported to these cattle haats using National Highways, State Highways and the railways.
From these cattle markets, cattle were herded into border villages and smuggled into Bangladesh on opportune moments, it said.
This seizure underlines the fact that despite the number of cases of cattle seizure affected by the BSF on Asom and Meghalaya Frontier, cattle smuggling on either side of the border still continued.
