Bangalore, June 19 (UNI) Karnataka Advocate General Uday Holla has granted permission to Doordarshan Kendra Director Mahesh Joshi here to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Congress MP R L Jalappa on a letter written by him to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

Mr Uday Holla, disposing off an application by Mr Joshi seeking consent for initiating criminal contempt proceedings against Mr Jalappa, stated that the letter written by him (Mr Jalappa) was intended to scandalise the court and the judges.

Mr Joshi had approached the Advocate General seeking permission after Mr Jalappa wrote a letter to Union Minister, accusing that the Director, Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra was facing corruption charges, indulged in misuse of official power and had managed the judiciary to wriggle out of corruption cases filed by CBI. Mr Jalappa also sought the Minister to transfer Mr Joshi from Bangalore.

Terming the charges made by Mr Jalappa as reckless, baseless and untrue, Mr Joshi approached the Advocate General to accord sanction to initiate criminal contempt proceedings.
