7 held for causing woman's suicide over dowry demands

Rajkot, June 19 (UNI) Seven persons, including the husband of a 22-year-old woman who had committed suicide on June 12 here, have been arrested.

A complaint against the seven was filed yesterday by the woman's father, Mansukhbhai Chovatia.

In his complaint, Mr Chovatia has alleged that his deceased daughter Bhoomi's husband Ramesh Gajera, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, had harassed and tortured her over dowry demands that had driven her to commit suicide by consuming poison.

Mr Chovatia alleged that he had paid up money several times, but the demands still persisted.

Acting on the complaint, police have arrested Ramesh Gajera, his mother Jyotsnaben, brother Jignesh, sisters Nayana and Nita, Nayana's husband Bhavesh and uncle Bavabhai Kurjibhai.
