3 shot in CBD of Australia's second largest city
Canberra, June 18: Three people have been shot and wounded by a sole gunman during a morning peak-hour shooting in Australia's second largest city Melbourne, police said today.
The gunman opened fire around 0345 hrs IST on a busy city intersection, wounding a woman and two men before fleeing on foot, Victoria Police said.
''There is a large police operation underway in the Melbourne CBD as we speak to try and apprehend the offender,'' Inspector Glenn Weir told local television.
Eyewitness reports said the gunman dragged a woman from a taxi and opened fire with between six and seven shots when two men came to her assistance.
