Defeated Juppe to quit French government
Paris, June 18: France's de-facto deputy prime minister, Alain Juppe, was beaten in parliamentary election and immediately announced he would quit the government.
Juppe was only handed the powerful energy and environmental portfolio last month, a new post that had made him the number two in Prime Minister Francois Fillon's government.
But he lost to a little-known Socialist candidate in his Bordeaux constituency in legislative ballot and in a brief speech, he told supporters he would hand in his resignation from the government.
