Temperatures fall due to snow in HP

Shimla, June 17 (UNI) Maximum and minimum temperatures across Himachal Pradesh declined today following mild snow at higher altitude areas of Lahaul Spiti and light showers at a few places in Kinnuar, Kullu and Chamba districts of the state.

Higher altitude areas of Lahaul Spiti district experienced mild intermittent snowfall since this afternoon, while light showers lashed the lower areas of the district.

Rohtang Pass, situated at 13050 feet and also called the gateway to Lahaul Spiti district, received light rain during the day, plummeting temperatures in the entire region.

Overcast conditions were prevailing in other mid and lower hills, including Shimla, of the state after unusual hot summers this year.

The met office said the maximum temperature at Shimla dropped by two degrees to stand at 21.3 degrees as compared to 23.5 degree Celsius yesterday, while recording a low of 14.6 degrees.

The minimum at Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Kalpa also dropped to 28.1, 29.4 and 20.1 degree Celsius respectively from yesterday's high of 31.9, 32.3 and 23.4 degree Celsius, it said.

The night temperature at Una town also dropped to 20.8 degrees from a high of 23 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

The met office has predicted light to moderate rains at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
