Mumbai, Jun 17 (UNI) The relatives of gangster Ejaz Pathan, who died in judicial custody last week, are planning to sue the Maharashtra government for compensation for not providing him timely medical aid in jail.

Pathan's lawyer Abbas Kazmi told UNI that family members of Pathan, who was convicted by the TADA court a few days back and awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case, will soon be filing a petition in the Bombay High Court in this regard.

Kazmi said Pathan's family members were presently collecting medical papers and other documents. ''They are seeking expert opinion on the issue. After completing the formalities, we will approach the court,'' he said.

However, he did not disclose the amount of compensation that they plan to seek from the State government.

It may be recalled that the State government had earlier sanctioned a sum of Rs 2.25 lakh for Pathan as he was supposed to undergo an operation at the government-run KEM hospital on June 23.

However, he died on June 15 at J J hospital due to cardiac arrest.

He was brought to the hospital from the Arthur road jail after he complained of chest pain.
