Dhaka, June 17 (UNI) Decks have been cleared for the deportation of Mohiuddin Ahmed, one of the assassins of founding father of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, after a California court today turned down his appeal to stay in the US.

A district court in California rejected the appeal of Lt Col (retd) Mohiuddin Ahmed, one of the 12 former Army officers sentenced to death for assassinating first Bangladesh President Sheikh Mujib on August 15, 1975, to stay in the US and ordered his deportation to Dhaka.

''The process of his deportation has started. He is likely to arrive at the Zia International Airport here tomorrow,'' Foreign Affairs Advisor Iftikhar Ahmed Chowdhury told reporters here this afternoon.

US authorities have not disclosed the flight and the arrival time of Mohiuddin for security reasons.

Official sources in Dhaka and Washington said two US sleuths would be escorting the convict.

The escorts will hand him over to the Bangladesh Police at the airport and return by the same plane, they added.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry informed the Home Ministry about the matter and advised them to take necessary measures.

Mohiuddin, 60, has spent nine years in Los Angeles. He was Major at the time when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated.

He was tried in absentia and sentenced to death in 1998 during Mujibur's daughter Sheikh Hasina had been the Prime Minister of the country.

While serving as a Bangladeshi diplomat to the Middle-eastern country, Mohiuddin entered the US on a visitor's visa in 1996 and had since been fighting long legal battles to stay there.
