Kolkata, Jun 17: Public sector coal major Coal India Limited has appealed to the Centre by setting up a committee of secretaries, a mechanism modelled on ONGC Videsh, which will give clearance for acquiring foreign coal blocks.

''An one window systems should be evolved to allow expedite clearances while acquiring coal blocks. Whenever we identify a coal block abroad, the procedural delays stop us to acquire the blocks,'' Coal India Director (Technical) N C Jha told UNI.

He said, ''Private sector companies bit us while acquiring mines as things happen very fast there. In the globalised scenario, foreign blocks change hands fast and the global companies do not wait for these delays.'' ''A committee of secreatries clear ONGC Videsh projects quickly and CIL also wants a system like this,'' he added.

''CIL is also a part of the consortium formed under the aegis of the Steel Ministry, in which SAIL, NTPC, RINL are also part. The consortium would together acquire coal blocks in various countries,'' he said.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) would be formed and the whole process would be operational soon.
