TRS criticises Congress for stalling Telangana's water share
Hyderabad, Jun 16 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) President and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao today alleged that the Congress government was robbing the Telangana region of its rightful share in the river waters.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Rao said through GO 34 issued in February 2007, the government had stipulated that one tmcft of water would be sufficient for 15,000 acres of land, as against 10,000 acres stipulated earlier. The government was now asking the farmers to utilise one tmcft of water for 15,000 acres through drip and sprinkler irrigation, he added.
The TRS leader said while the earlier TDP government, headed by Mr Chandrababu Naidu, robbed the Telangana people indirectly, the present Congess government was robbing them directly.
Describing the Jala Yagnam of the government as Bali (Sacrificial) Yagnam, he said only projects with a total capacity of 250 tmcft were being taken up in the Telangana region as against the 680 tmcft in the Andhra region. Even in the 250 tmcft, reports were indicating that there might be a cut of 100 tmcft in the Telangana projects.
Mr Rao called upon Congress MPs and MLAs from the Telangana region to condemn the injustice being meted out to the region and fight for justice. The government's promise of providing water to the Telangana region through lift irigation was unbelievable, he added.
He warned the Government that it would have to face the wrath of the people of the region, if it continued to neglect it.
