Test discard Dodda Ganesh calls it a day

Bangalore, Jan 16 (UNI) Test discard Doddanarasiah Ganesh today announced his retirement from first class cricket.

A medium pace bowler Dodda Ganesh was also chief wicket taker for Karnataka in Ranji matches (365 wickets from 104 matches) and his highest being 7 for 36 against Haryana in 1995-96 season. He made debut in the Test against South Africa at Cape Town in 1997 and also played his last Test match West Indies at Georgetown in the same year. He has played in only one ODI against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 1997.

"I am not disappointed for not being selected for the Indian team, because I wanted to play for Karnataka", Dodda Ganesh told newsmen after announcing his retirement.

Remembering those who helped him during his 11 years of cricket career, he said that " I am very grateful to those who helped me in coming to this stage especially Gundappa Vishwanath, Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad, Brijesh Patel and others. But for them I would not have been risen to this level." Dodda Ganesh has also achieved a record by capturing 62 wickets in 1997-98 Ranji season.

A Janata Dal (Secular) party worker Dodda Ganesh was interested to enter politics.
