Remote sensing technology to help farmers: Hanumantha Rao

Vijayawada, June 16 (UNI) Remote sensing technology will help farmers to increase agricultural productivity in the country, United Nations Consultant and Andhra Pradesh Government former Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation) T Hanumantha Rao said today.

Addressing a conference on 'Dissemination of Space Technology for Agriculture Development' organised by Federation of Farmers Associaion (FFA) in association with Andhra Pradesh Remote Sensing Applications Centre (APSRAC) here, he said the technology would help crop assessments and increase production.

The remote sensing technology would help in identifying crop patterns, land cover and soil status, he said.

Andhra Pradesh Rural Water Supply Minister P Venkateswara Rao, in his address, urged the scientific community to educate the farming community on the importance of scientific applications for increasing agricultural production.

The state government would implement more welfare schemes for the farmers and an additional 65 lakh acres of land would be brought under cultivation through the 'Jalayagnam' programme, he added.
