REL forms disaster mgmt teams to tackle power cuts during rains

Mumbai, June 16 (UNI) Reliance Energy Ltd (REL) today announced that it has formed 30 disaster management teams, equipped with latest communication gadgets like 'Wi-Fi' sets, to deal with any power cuts in low-lying areas due to waterlogging during the monsoon.

REL's has power supply network covers a population of 9 million and an area of 384 sq km within the city.

Under the plan, spare parts, tools, equipment mobile DG sets and an additional 50 transformers are being stocked at these special selected locations spread over the area of supply, to meet any break in power transmission in case of a 26/7 like situation arises again.

Speaking to mediapersons at the site visit of REL in Santacruz, Reliance Energy Executive Director Lalit Jalan said ''Keeping in view deluge of last two years, which resulted in large scale disruptions of power supply in various areas of the city, we have drawn a disaster management plan to ensure minimal power cut during monsoon.'' Apart from, apex team stationed at the central control centre, Santacruz, there are six additional teams that will function from respective divisonal headquarters located across the suburban district.

Central control centre will also coordinate with municipal corporation, MSEB and other agencies and will be manned round the clock by the special teams to enure speedy restoration of power supply in case of power failure during monsoon.

It is pertinent to mention here that due to waterlogging during monsoon in last few years, the city experienced a slew of power cuts in various locations for an uncertain period, which compounded the problems of the masses.
