Mumbai, Jun 16 (UNI) Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said the Prime Minister will flag off development work at the Mumbai airport towards the end of July.

He also emphasised that encroachments around the Mumbai airport will be removed shortly.

Releasing the ASSOCHAM-Ernst&Young report, 'Indian Civil Aviation Industry: Road Map for Growth', at the Air India headquarters here, Mr Patel said the new civil aviation policy will ensure a level-playing field to the domestic vis-vis international carrier.

''The new policy, called Vision 2020, which has now been referred to the Group of Ministers (GoM) for wider consultatations, will be based on caliberated and balanced approach,'' he said.

On a question whether his Ministry was giving any thought to do away with the 'five year' clause for the domestic airlines, which is mandatory for operating on international routes, he replied that there was a proposal to provide some relaxations in the norm.

Mr Patel said that post merger, the combined entity, Air India will have a leverage for outsourcing its vast engineers pool to the third party.

Replying to another question as to why India was carrying on a British legacy on all of its aircraft, which carry VT (Victorian Territoty) registeration code on its tails even after 60 years of its Independence, the Minister said that a request has already been sent to the International Civil Aviation Organisation, for allotting it a new code.
