Lapang urges government for all round development in NE

Shillong, Jun 16 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang today, asked the Central Government to develop an all-round infrastructures in remote North Eastern states, so as to have a positive impact on India's 'Look East' policy.

Speaking at an interaction on ''Look East Policy: Geography as an Opportunity'', Mr Lapang said abandoned World War II air strips which dots the South East Region can be taken up for air connectivity.

He said the Stillwell road connecting Yunan province of China to Ledo in Asom upto Myanmar need to be improved and other land routes be opened for travel, pilgrimages and tourism.

To enable the North Eastern states to become centres of transit for trade with our neighbours, Mr Lapang urged the Centre to simplify procedures to facilitate counter trade arrangements like cross-border movement of vehicles, provision of weigh bridges and cold storage.

He also urged the Centre to explore the possibility for setting up centres for English language training which will attracts trainees from the South East Asian countries.
