Lalu inaugurates broad gauge line in MP

Ratlam, MP, June 16 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today flagged off the first passenger train here on the new Ratlam-Neemuch 136-km broad gauge line -- the venture cost Rs 171.73 crore.

Among those present were Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kantilal Bhuria, MPs Lakshmi Narayan Pandey, Satyanarayan Jatia and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

''Madhya Pradesh will lead in rail facilities, more trains will ply on this section in future and an express will be started soon from Ajmer,'' Mr Prasad assured. Over the past three years, ten trains were started in this state, two expanded and the frequency of three enhanced. Schemes worth Rs 4,917 crore are being implemented.

A Rs 1,414-crore scheme is proposed for Ratlam-Akola gauge conversion and will get the ''Cabinet nod'' soon.

''Doubling of the Maksi-Bhopal line and 86-km Ujjain-Indore line, laying a 136-km Ratlam-Banswada line and a 207-km third line between Ratlam and Vadodara will be done. The Garib Rath will halt here. A 50 per cent concession will be granted to unemployed youth travelling for interviews,'' the Minister said.

He announced a Rs 10 lakh reward for the employees who converted the Ratlam-Neemuch gauge and Rs 2 lakh for employees, Scouts and Guides who presented a cultural programme.
