JD(U) to support AIADMK in Madurai bypoll

Chennai, June 16 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) in Tamil Nadu today decided to support the AIADMK in June 26 by-election to the Madurai West Assembly Constituency.

Briefing mediapersons on the deleberations at the party state executive held here, JD(U) State President K Rajasekaran and Principal General Secretary D Rajagopal said a resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting which also appealed to the State and Central Governments to enhance the monthly pension given to freedom fighters.

It also appealed to the Centre and the state not to permit Special Economic Zones (SEZs) anywhere in the country under any circumstances . They also sought the implementation of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in the Centrally-run higher educational institutions.

The state government should come out with a white paper on its move to protect sand and other natural resources.

The executive also decided to hold party's zonal conference at Vellore on August 18 in which Party National President Sharad Yadav, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and others were expected to participate.

The proposed conference would focus on these issues besides urging the Union Government to initiate speedy measures for inter-linking of rivers after bringing them under the Central list, they added.
