IT sleuths seize unaccounted cash from air passenger
Chennai, June 16 (UNI) Income Tax Department sleuths seized Rs 65 lakh in 'unaccounted money' from an air passenger who arrived here from Hyderabad at Kamaraj Domestic Airport.
Official sources said acting on a tip off, officials yesterday intercepted Rajendran of Arantanghi in Pudukkottai District of Tamil Nadu who was working as a software engineer in Hyderabad and made the seizure.
The money was seized as the passenger could not offer satisfactory explanation on its source.
There was also considerable difference in the denomination of the cash alleged to have been withdrawn from the bank and that found in his possession.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the cash was intended to be paid as 'on-money' in connection with the purchase of a property on the East Coast Road, near here, they added.
