Implement Sachar recommendations involving state govts: Saleh
Kochi, June 16 (UNI) The Sachar Committee Report recommendations can be implemented only with the active participation of the state governments and by sensitising the bureaucracy, said Abu Saleh Sheriff, Member Secretary of Sachar Committee.
Speaking on 'Sachar Report and its Implications' at the 'South Indian Muslim Convention for Social Justice' here today, Mr Saleh said the state governments should formulate policies to implement the recommendations.
''Instead of the Union Minorities Ministry implementing the recommendations, it should be done by the regular departments of the central and state governments by sensitising the bureaucracy,'' he added.
The implementation can be done through multiple programmes in different states by using the government machinery, he said.
However, he informed that it was not compulsory for the government to implement the recommendations.
Mr Saleh said the equality of education in Kerala was only 'skin deep', as there was great disparity between Muslim community and other communities right after the primary education.
The committee headed by Justice Rajindar Sachar, which submitted its report last year, was set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to prepare a report on the social, economic and educational status of the muslim community.
