Panaji, Jun 16 (UNI) Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) today appointed a 7-member committee, headed by advocate Uday Bhembre to study the June 2 election results and asked it to submit its observations in a month.

''The committee will assess the performance of the Congress candidates in all the constituencies they contested and find out merits and demerits so that the mistakes could be rectified in future elections,'' GPCC President Ravi S Naik told mediapersons here today.

Interacting with reporters after the GPCC held its meeting for the first time after riding back to power last week, he said such a study would benefit the party a lot so that it would not commit similar mistakes in future.

Incidentally, Mr Bhembre headed the manifesto committee, which for the first time, came out with the document after consulting different sections of the society reflecting their aspirations of the government. He was formerly editor of the only Konkani daily 'Sunaparanth'' here.

The GPCC meting, in which Chief Minister Digambar Kamat also participated, in a resolution, conveyed their gratitude to the electorate and the party workers besides Congress high command Sonia Gandhi for the success of the Congress in the polls.

It further resolved to congratulate Digambar Kamat for being elected the Chief Minister and Pratapsinh Rane as the Speaker of the 5th Legislative Assembly.

The party had further urged the government to implement the party manifesto-claimed to be the 'Peoples' Manifesto' - in letter and spirit.

It hoped the government would take the party into confidence before taking major policy and executive decisions and proposing legislations so that it lives upto expectations of the electorate.

The Chief Minister, immediately after assuming office on June 8, had decided to constitute a committee under his leadership including ministers, politicians, voluntary bodies and others for devising ways to implement the party manifesto.
