Defence Min inaugurates BELs new building

Ghaziabad, June 16 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony inaugurated the new state-of-the-art building of the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) of Navaratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) here today.

Mr Antony inaugurated the Near Field Antenna Development and Test Centre (NFADTC) which has been set up by BEL- Ghaziabad at a cost of Rs 12 crore. The facility is intended to develop and test all types of antennae including Phased Array Antennae, a statement said.

The new facility is an indoor facility with stimulated field conditions that occupies relatively small space compared to an outdoor Far Field Antenna Test Facility, akin to the one BEL operates in Sohna in Haryana.

The existing CRLs at Bangalore and Ghaziabad carry out futuristic research functioning as a technology window of BEL and working closely with organisations such as DRDO and ISRO.

BEL spends four to five per cent of its annual turnover on research and developmental activities and during the year 2006-07, 81 per cent of BELs turnover accrued from products manufactured on indigeneous technology.
