Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Ludhiana
Ludhiana, Jun 16 (UNI) A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Kalsa village near Rajkot in Ludhiana district of Punjab last night, police today said.
According to police sources, 58-year-old farmer Kaur Singh consumed some poisonous substance to end his life. He owned about 4 acre odd land which he had sold sometime back.
Presently, he used to earn a living by contract farming but since the yield was poor this year, he was unable to pay back the contract amount and his earlier debt.
According to family members, due to the financial crisis, Kaur Singh had been under depression for past few days.
Police was investigating the case.
