Punjab: Chahal sent to one-day police custody

Patiala, June 16: The Patiala court today sent BIS Chahal, former media advisor of former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, to police custody for one day in a case registered against him under Sections 384, 406, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC.

The Chief Judicial magistrate S S Panser, after hearing prosecution and defense side decided to send Chahal to one-day police custody.

The case was registered against him by Patiala police on the complaint of Jagatjit Singh of Baghat Moters, Singh in his complaint to the police has alleged that Chahal took his Mercedes Benz in 2005 but never returned the vehicle. He got it registered in his own name on the basis of fake papers.

The complainant charged that Chahal had fraudulently taken away a brand new Mercedes Benz from his showroom, on a false pretext and refused to return it.

Chahal's counsel NPS Wraich denied that vehicle belonged to his client and informed the court that vehicle number PJN-1 in the case has already registered in the name of Jagatjit Singh and no forgery has been done.

Intervening in the debate, BIS Chahal alleged that the present SAD-BJP government had been fabricated cases against him as his relative has given affidavit against Parkash Singh Badal and his family members for disproportionate assets.

Chahal alleged that that Vigilance police had been torturing him for last three days in Ludhiana. He said he was taken away in midnight to undisclosed place and given 'third-degree torture treatment.

He alleged that police stretched his legs and applied electric shocks on his private parts. He was kept in "BAKHSIKHANA" (The cell in the court premises where under trials used to house).

The Patiala police brought Chahal here this morning on transit warrants from Ludhiana after obtaining production warrants, from the court of K K Karrir Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Patiala.

Patiala police had gone yesterday to Ludhiana to bring Chahal to Patiala in the said case but the duty magistrate declined to hand it the custody of Chahal in the absence of the transit warrants.

Clad in white lining shirt and dark trousers, Chahal spent at least 4 hours sitting on a wooden bench, before he was produced in the court.

Chahal was kept in ladies cell as no other woman undertrial was present today. Chahal was looking depressed and no mediaperson was allowed to talk to him in the morning.

Patiala police has also registered another case on Wednesday against him at the Kotwali police station under sections 420, 405 and 406 on the complaint of Kanwarjit Singh, proprietor of Commando Caterers in Mohali.

The complaint pertained to Chahal getting his kitchen at his residence here renovated and fitted with the latest cooking gadgets.

The complainant alleged that the bill of Rs 15 lakh incurred for the kitchen was not paid by Chahal.
