Chahal sent to judicial custody in two cases
Patiala, June 16 (UNI) Media advisor to former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Bharat Inder Singh Chahal was sent to judicial custody in both the cases of cheating and forgery registered against him in Patiala.
Chief Judicial Magistrate SS Panser, agreed with the defence counsel NPS Warich that since in Mercedes Benz cheating case, police have recovered the vehicle from Ramba village near Karnal (Haryana) this morning, there will be no need for police remand.
Consequently, he ordered that Chahal be sent to judicial custody.
High drama was witnessed when police brought Chahal in the court room. The Public prosecutor sought further police remand in the case saying they had found registration plates in the car and registration copies was yet to be recovered from the house of BIS Chahal at Sagar apartments in Tilak Marg, New Delhi.
The defence counsel objected to the demand saying that it was the malafide intentions of the government to implicate his client in fake cases and he was in police custody since June 10.
The judge gave five minutes break to study the case and ordered Chahal to judicial Custody for 14 days.
Soon after, the Public prosecutor filed an application in the court seeking police remand in another case of forgery and cheating registered at Kotwali police station.
In this case, the complaint pertained to Chahal getting his kitchen at his residence here renovated and fitted with the latest cooking gadgets. The complainant had alleged that the bill of Rs 15 lakh incurred for the kitchen was not paid by Chahal.
The defence counsel argued that this was not a criminal case and SSP Patiala had already videographed the entire house. Even the private channels were beaming the film and if complainant or government had bills and numbers on it they may have recovered it from the house and there was no need of police custody in this case either.
Chahal today again alleged that the police had been torturing him for the last three days in Ludhiana and yesterday in Patiala the CIA, SSP himself tortured him till 0200 hrs.
Later, Chahal alleged it was a case of political vendetta and the SAD-led government had been fabricating cases against him since his relative had given an affidavit against Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal in a disproportionate assets case during the previous Congress regime.
He also alleged that the SSPs of Punjab had been vying with each other in humiliating him to ''appease their political masters''.
After hearing the arguments, Chief Judicial Magistrate S S Panser remanded Chahal to 14 days judical custody in both the cases.
The Ludhiana court had on Thursday sent Chahal to 14-day judicial remand after he was arrested along with five others in a land grab case last Sunday.
